Previously, we shared an overview of the slope protection system we completed for a large-scale, mixed-use development, one designed to blend urban growth with nature.
Now we’re taking a closer look at one key component of that system: drainage canals.
Before: a slope with sparse, uneven vegetation prone to surface runoff

After: a stabilized slope with strategically placed canals guiding water away

✅ Why are drainage canals important?
Water is one of the most persistent threats to slope stability. Without proper flow management, rainwater can weaken soil, trigger erosion, and increase landslide risk.
That’s why Ground Specialists, Inc. integrated engineered drainage into this project, constructing a canal to capture and guide rainwater away from the slope face. Combined with other methods like soil nailing, hydroseeding, and erosion mats, this canal plays a crucial role in preserving the integrity of the entire site.
🛠️ Thoughtful design. Lasting protection. That’s the GSI way.
