In 2022, Ground Specialists, Inc. was tasked with a critical assignment: to stabilize the face of a mountain ahead of major underground development.

Before tunneling could begin, it was crucial to ensure the stability of the surrounding slopes to prevent rockfalls, erosion, and other hazards. GSI applied a combination of shotcreting and soil nailing in select sections of the mountainside, particularly in areas around the planned tunnel entrance. The surrounding zones were treated with erosion control mats and additional soil nails to reinforce the earth and promote long-term slope stability.

One feature that sets this project apart is the use of rope access for high-slope work. In areas where traditional scaffolding was unsafe or impractical, our certified team scaled the steep terrain using specialized rope techniques. This approach is not only safer for challenging topographies, it also requires highly trained and certified professionals, a capability that not all contractors can offer.
