Deep excavations require careful planning and reliable support systems to maintain stability throughout construction. For this project, Ground Specialists, Inc. provided temporary excavation support to help secure excavation faces as work progressed.
To stabilize the excavation, GSI implemented a staged support approach. As each section was excavated, shotcrete and soil nails were installed to reinforce exposed ground surfaces and reduce the risk of soil movement. This method allowed excavation activities to proceed safely while maintaining the integrity of the surrounding ground.
A notable feature of this project was the use of Glass Fibre Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) soil nails. Unlike conventional steel soil nails, GFRP elements are lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and can be cut through more easily when future excavation or permanent works require it. Their use provided an effective support solution while helping improve installation efficiency.
The project also reflected GSI’s commitment to workplace safety. During construction, the project team contributed to the achievement of more than three million safe manhours without a Lost Time Incident, earning recognition for its dedication to maintaining safe working conditions throughout the project.
🛠️ Advanced solutions. Disciplined execution. Safety at every stage. That’s the GSI way.
