Project Profile: Slope and Tunnel Support for a Major Water Infrastructure Project

A major water infrastructure development required reliable slope stabilization and underground support works to help ensure safe excavation and long-term structural performance.

Ground Specialists, Inc. was engaged to carry out critical shotcreting works across both above-ground and underground sections of the project, each presenting distinct geotechnical challenges.

For exposed slope sections, stabilization was required to address variable ground conditions and reduce the risk of instability. Shotcrete was applied to reinforce the slope surface, helping protect against erosion and support overall slope integrity.

Underground, works were carried out within a deep vertical shaft and tunnel system. To support excavation activities, GSI implemented dry-mix shotcreting using a suspended gondola system, allowing precise application in a confined and vertical environment while maintaining safety and efficiency during operations.

The combination of surface stabilization and underground support required careful coordination, particularly given the scale of the excavation and the complexity of working across different site conditions.

Despite these challenges, GSI’s work contributed to the safe progression of construction, providing essential structural support for a project designed to help strengthen water supply capacity for a major urban area.

🛠 Specialized access. Complex conditions. Reliable support. That’s the GSI way.
