Project Profile: Coastal Excavation Support Part 2

In Part 1, we looked at the challenging ground conditions and deep excavation that GSI had to support before permanent construction could proceed. Now, here’s how the excavation support works were carried out.

GSI used soil nailing and shotcrete to provide temporary lateral support. Soil nails provided reinforcement within the excavation walls, while shotcrete helped stabilize the exposed surface.

The work also involved specialized drilling to navigate gravel, boulders, and fractured rock. As excavation progressed, GSI closely managed the changing site conditions and coordinated its work with dewatering operations to help control groundwater during construction.

Through nearly two years of implementation, the GSI project team maintained its safety and quality procedures while coordinating with the other teams involved in the project. The temporary support system successfully maintained the integrity of the excavation, allowing permanent construction activities to proceed safely through completion and turnover.

🛠️ Keeping complex excavation work moving safely. That’s the GSI way.
